I offer two editorial services, manuscript assessments and developmental editing, that cover big picture story elements for fiction books. If you have a finished manuscript and aren’t afraid of constructive criticism, I’d love to work with you. I typically edit the science fiction, fantasy, YA, thriller, and mystery genres, but I’m open to other works of fiction depending on the project. Below are details on each of my services.
Manuscript Assessments
- 2-3 page editorial letter covering the manuscript’s core strengths and weaknesses in regards to elements such as character, plot, and pacing.
- A video call or in-person consultation on completion of the manuscript assessment
I charge a flat fee of $300 for one manuscript assessment.
Developmental Edits
- Full electronic manuscript markup (in Microsoft Word) with in-line comments and suggestions
- 2-3 page editorial letter covering the manuscript’s core strengths and weaknesses in regards to elements such as character, plot, and pacing.
- A video call or in-person consultation on completion of the developmental edit
Developmental edit fees are dependent on length and scope of the project, but they start at $50 an hour or $.03 a word.
If You’d Like To Work With Me
If either of these services sound perfect for you, please contact me. Include in your message the following:
- Requested editing service
- Your target timeline
- Book title
- Genre
- Word count
- A 250 word summary of the book
I will get in touch with some follow-up questions to help discern if we will be good partners on this editing journey. If I am unable to take on your project, I will let you know as soon as possible. If I can take on a new project and we both feel we’re a good fit, I’ll send you a formal agreement which will need to be reviewed and signed. All payments will be made via PayPal, with half due upon agreement and half upon completion. If for any reason I am unable to complete your service, I will issue a full refund.
I look forward to taking this editing journey with you!
What Other’s Are Saying About Liz
Liz has critiqued a great deal of my own work and that of several writing peers. I can say without hesitation that she is keenly skilled at spotting plot holes, narrative knots, world-building chasms, character hiccups, or the myriad other issues that can make a story fall flat. Liz has been kind, professional, and gently direct, allowing my tales to not only keep their spirit, but to glow ever more brilliantly. Her shrewd appraisals and innate grasp of story structure will help you forge your best writing.
~Kallan Aventyr
Liz Verity works from the ground up to make sure whatever I write conveys exactly what I want my readers to see and feel. She is absolutely the best at finding weak narrative, internal inconsistencies, and story and character arc weak spots. Then she gives me ideas on how to fix them if I can’t come up with it on my own. She absolutely rocks!
~Barbara A Denz
Liz has a masterful use of description and prose, and she’s helped me bring my characters to life by making the story personal for them. She spots many areas that could be tweaked, both with prose and plot. Do yourself a favor, and let her check over your work. I highly recommend it.
